Field Study, Vision Board is Johnathan Wilborn’s first exhibition with the gallery. It brings together a new group of paintings in which dense, gestural surfaces develop over visible grids. Traces of figures, interiors and ornament emerge and disappear within the accumulated layers, allowing the images to shift between abstraction and figuration. Suggesting both architectural perspective and the constructed space of a screen, the grids establish patterned fields that the movement of paint repeatedly disrupts. Throughout the exhibition, compressed forms and repeated marks evoke phosphenes and the afterimages that linger behind closed eyelids.

Johnathan Wilborn (b. 1994, Denver) is a New York-based painter. He received his BFA from Cooper Union in 2020 and his MFA from Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts in 2025. His work has recently been presented at Cabanon, Paris; Theta, New York; Westbeth Gallery, New York; and Blue Velvet, Madrid.
