We are excited to announce Mónica Mays' second solo exhibition with Blue Velvet in Zurich

Mónica Mays’ practice is founded on ideas of knowledge production and affective systems, in which desire and fear collide to form a specific grammar. For her second solo exhibition at Blue Velvet Zurich, she presents sculptural installations built from salvaged industrial, domestic and archival detritus, assembled to echo the twisted architectures of fairground rides. Seducing and repelling at the same time, her “paradise machines” conjure mechanisms of control masked as thrill. Straddling bodies, monuments, and debris, her forms stage a choreography of disorientation, where desire mutates into exhaustion. Hovering between attraction and ruin, Mays’ work proposes unstable systems of submission, spectacle, and subversion.
