Basel Social Club 2025
Presentation with Sibylle Ruppert (estate), Marius Steiger and Anne de Vries
15 – 21 June 2025 | Rittergasse 21-25, 4051 Basel
We are pleased to participate in the fourth edition of Basel Social Club with works by Sibylle Ruppert (1942, Frankfurt – 2011, Paris) Marius Steiger (*1999, Bern/London) and Anne de Vries (*1977, Berlin/Amsterdam).
Sibylle Ruppert developed a radical body of work comprising paintings, drawings, and collages from the 1960s to the 1980s. Her practice combines elements of dark surrealism, eroticism, and a direct engagement with personal trauma. Born in Frankfurt during an air raid on September 8, 1942, she was admitted to the Städelschule at the age of 17 before relocating to Paris, where she enrolled in ballet school. A later trip to New York led her to abandon dance and dedicate herself fully to visual art. In the 1980s, she began teaching art in prisons, psychiatric institutions, and rehabilitation centers.
Marius Steiger is a Swiss artist with a Master’s degree in Painting from the Royal College of Art in London. He has received a scholarship from the Patronage Fund for Young Swiss Artists of the Kunsthalle Basel. His work is included in public collections such as the New Art Dealers Alliance (New York), the Art Collection of the City of Zurich, the Art Collection of the Canton of Bern, and the Swiss National Library.
Anne de Vries’ artistic practice includes video installations, dioramas, sculptures, mixed media collages, publications, and interventions. His works explore the interconnectivity between various realities and often revolve around themes drawn from popular culture, subcultures, and invented narratives. This hybrid approach encourages viewers to reassess objects and narratives and reflects on the ways in which meaning is generated through artistic processes.
